For the upcoming
week of January 27, 2003, the following construction activities
will take place:
- Continue
development of concrete footings along 12th Street
- Continue
pouring of concrete wall along 12th Street
- Continue
soil retention and excavation adjacent to current building.
This past
week, at its bi-weekly meeting, the NJDS Construction Steering
Committee selected AMCASE to provide the new operatory casework.
The AMCASE mock-up was the one closest to the ramp down into B842
(grayish in color, without the column enclosure). Both mock-ups
will be disassembled in the next week; the AMCASE mock-up will
be reassembled in an alternate location in order for the school
to determine the location of accessories within the operatory
(i.e., glove dispensers, laptop computer tray, garbage pail, sharps
container, sink and faucet design, etc.) As these items are considered,
the Steering Committee will be looking again to the faculty, staff
and students to provide input into the process. As with the selection
process for the casework vendor, the Office of Clinical Affairs
will be coordinating this aspect of the project.
Finally,
NJDS has been notified that the construction of a utility tunnel,
that will run parallel to the current building on the quad side,
will begin in the next few weeks. This tunnel will carry utilities
from the main UMDNJ system to the addition. The exact date when
the construction will start has yet to be finalized. I am currently
working with FP&C and TORCON to determine the start date, as well
as finalizing the particulars regarding the construction. I will
forward this information as soon as the construction plan is completed.
