WE ARE IN
THE NEW ADDITION! The school received the "TCO" or Temporary
Certificate of Occupancy in early July. The dentals students began
to use the new clinic shortly thereafter. Based on initial reviews,
everyone - students, staff and faculty - are truly impressed with
the new facility and enjoy treating patients in the new clinic.
Currently,
the construction team is reviewing the building with the dental
school for any items that need correction. For those unfamiliar
with this process - a normal step in the course of construction
- the items that require further work are placed onto a "punch-list."
The construction team then goes back and corrects anything on the
list. During this time, we are installing the furniture for the
offices, waiting areas and conference rooms, completing the signage
program, and installing the AV equipment into the conference rooms.
The school
is also moving forward with "Phase 2"
of the project, which is to build out the rest of the B-Level space
that is currently shelled, complete the clinical space on the C-Level,
as well as moving some facilities into the A-Level (basement) of
the addition. The architects are currently finishing up the plans,
and we hope that work will begin in the very near future. When the
B-Level is completed, the school will have new lecture halls, conference
rooms and a school lounge, all connected by an attractive gallery.
The lecture halls will have "sky-walls" installed. This feature
allows the rooms to be combined so that over 400 people are able
to come together in one space! This will make the new NJDS lecture
rooms, when combined, the largest meeting space on campus.
All this takes
funding, as you can imagine. Our fundraising campaign is moving
along very well under the leadership of our campaign co-chairs,
Drs. Cosmo DeSteno and Anthony Volpe. They are working hard to raise
the additional funds necessary to complete the fit out of the addition
as well as upgrades to our existing facility. Keep a lookout for
more information on the campaign in the coming weeks.
Finally, I
would like to thank everyone for your efforts in making our construction
project such a success. It was a team effort, from start to finish.
It is truly an accomplishment we can all be proud of.
Stay tuned
for a virtual tour of the new facility.
Sincerely,
Dr. Fotinos
