Early
in July 2004, we opened our new 12th Avenue Pavilion. The initial
reviews are five-star from everyone-students, faculty, patients
and staff. The new clinic areas are bright and sunny and furnished
with the latest equipment; the conference rooms are fitted with
the latest in audiovisual materials; and the new waiting rooms welcome
patients with their emphasis on comfort and restful seating arrangements.
The
original NJDS Bergen Street pavilion on UMDNJ's Newark campus, first
occupied in 1975, consists of four floors of approximately 194,000
square feet for the school's teaching, clinical, and research facilities.
In January 2000 the UMDNJ Board of Trustees approved plans for a
major expansion of the Dental School. The 78,000 square foot addition
to the existing dental school expands the research, teaching, and
treatment areas. When the building is finished and all renovations
to the existing space are complete, the school will have facilities
unrivaled by any other dental school in the country.
Delta
Dental's recent $2 million gift will help outfit the Educational
Conference Center in the new 12th Avenue Pavilion. The Center will
include three lecture halls with executive-style seating that when
opened up can seat more than 400 people. There will be three conference
rooms and a 3,000 square foot club-like lounge with an internet
café.
All
of these new features require funding, and we are pleased that our
fundraising campaign is moving along very well under the leadership
of our campaign co-chairs, Drs. Cosmo DeSteno and Anthony Volpe.
On
April 19, 2005 we kicked off the NJDS Family Campaign, and to date
we have collected more than $300,000 from faculty and staff.
