George Governal, '60 is celebrating his 25th year of
retirement from oral surgery. He practiced in New Brunswick,
N.J. Dr. Governal now lives on a ranch near Tucson, Ariz.
Alan Vella, '61 hunted in Alaska for 10 days last September.
George C. Rioseco, '62 is in practice with his son,
Robert. He has six granddaughters.
Mimi M. Vella, '63 is semi-retired. She is enjoying the
extra time with family and friends and travel.
Howard Nusbaum, '64 hopes to retire this year.
Robert Schmitz, '65 writes that there are five dentists
in his practice: himself; daughter Carol Anne and son-in-law
John Cottone; and son Robert ('94) and daughter-in-law Erika
Schweighardt ('94). They have four officesone at the original
site in Rego Park, N.Y., and the other three on Long Island.
Arthur Crosta, '67 reports that his daughter, Elizabeth,
was married to Benjamin Wayne of Santa Barbara, Calif., on Oct.
2, 1999. The couple honeymooned in Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia,
and South Korea. They presently reside in San Francisco.
David R. Federick, '67 was inducted as a Fellow of the
American College of Dentists last year in Honolulu. He has written
26 scientific papers in the past 17 years and presents between
50-70 lectures annually on these topics: implant prosthodontics,
restorative dentistry, and crowns and bridges. Last September,
he presented a seminar to NJDS prosthodontic residents. Dr. Federick,
a prosthodontist, is an associate professor at the
University of Texas dental school in Houston and an assistant
professor at the Boston University School of Dental Medicine.
Richard A. Mahevich, '67 announces the marriage of his
daughter, Danielle, to Dr. Jason Karns ('99). Dr. Karns is serving
as a dental officer with the U.S. Navy at Parris Island, S.C.
Upon completion of his military obligation, Dr. Karns will join
Dr. Mahevich's private general practice in North Brunswick, N.J.
Dr. Mahevich is a clinical assistant professor of General Dentistry
and Community Health at NJDS.
Dennis R. Christensen, '68 reports that his son, David,
graduated from NJDS in 1997. His daughter is a second-year medical
student at NJMS.
Marc S. Chalkin, '69 writes that his son, Dr. Brian Chalkin,
is in his first year of an orthopedic residency in Tulsa, Okla.,
at the Tulsa Regional Medical Center.
Gerald Gelfand, '71 is president of the Southern California
Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and chair of the California
Dental Association's Council on Legislation. A self-employed
oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Gelfand is a lecturer at
the UCLA School of Dentistry in the OMS Department. He is a past
president of the San Fernando Valley Dental Society.
J. Phillip Kurtz, '71 reports that his son, Dr. Marshall
Kurtz ('99), is doing a fellowship in OMS at UMDNJ.
Ronald C. Haeberle, '72 received the Excellence in Teaching
Award from the Foundation of UMDNJ.
John J. Graeber, D'72 received the Academy of General
Dentistry's Mastership Award in 1999.
Lawrence Lizzack, D'72 shares news of his children: Jason
is a junior at UMDNJ and doing well; Darren will graduate Rutgers
Business School in June; and Bonnie is a junior in high school.
Frank A. Bogdan, '73 writes that his son, Mark, is in
his second year of dental school at the University of Maryland-Baltimore.
Joseph Donato, '73 was vice president of the Pennsylvania
Dental Society from 1998-1999.
Glenn Hanf '73 after 25 years of practice in Vernon, NJ,
has relocated to Scottsdale,
Arizona, has become a partner in a practice in Carefree, Arizona
and has been professionally rejuvenated. Kids, Michelle (28),
Ian (22), Eric (19) and Lauren (16) are all great, although none

Charles M. Krowicki, '76 hit his second career hole-in-one
at Harker Hollow Golf Course. He accomplished this feat at the
5th hole (145 yards) with an 8 iron.
Jim Rochford, '76 reports that he ran into classmates
Sally Bonner and Charlie Krowicki in Hilton Head, S.C., where
they then played golf.
Bruce J. Roland, '77 writes that his oldest son, Brian,
a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, is a chef at
Jasna Polana in Princeton, N.J. His youngest son, Scott, has
been accepted to the professional golf management program at
Methodist College in North Carolina.
Thomas A. Rossi, '77 is an executive board member and
secretary of the Fauchard Dental Society, an executive board
member of the Essex County Dental Society, a
member of the NJDS House of Delegates, and an adjunct professor
in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at
Montclair State University.
Robert A. Shekitka, '77 is chairman of the American College
of DentistsNew Jersey Section. He is also a trustee of the
Essex County Dental Society to the New Jersey
Dental Association.
Cheryl Biber, '78 published "A Study of Sex Differences
in Presentation for Care of HIV" in the February 1999 issue
of AIDS Patient Care and STDs. The work was submitted in partial
fulfillment of an MPH degree. She implements distance learning
technologies at NJDS and practices part time in Livingston with
her husband, Dr. Joel Gelbman. She would love to hear from her

Yosh Jefferson, '78 was quoted in the April 1999 issue
of Men's Health Magazine. He became a Fellow of the International
College of Dentists in 1998.
Bob Leonetti, '78 is the former director of dental services
for the N.J. Department of Human Services. He resigned to devote
more time to his private practice in Berlin, N.J., and to his
family: wife, Joyce; son, David; and daughter, Maria. He is a
clinical instructor of General Dentistry and Community Health
at NJDS. Dr. Leonetti serves on the board of directors of the
Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities. He lectures
on dentistry for persons with disabilities and managed care as
it pertains to these patients.
David A. Goldberg, '79 was recently elected into fellowship
in the International College of Dentists. He became board certified
in periodontics in 1989 and maintains a private practice in North
Plainfield, N.J., which is limited to that specialty, including
implant dentistry.
Marc Rosenblum, '79 was appointed to full time at NJDS
in the Department of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials and the
Department of General Dentistry and Community Health.
Scott D. Ganz, '81 is president of the New Jersey section
of the American College of Prosthodontists. He lectures nationally
and internationally on the prosthetic and surgical phases of
implant dentistry. Dr. Ganz, who completed a three-year specialty
program in maxillofacial prosthetics at the M.D. Anderson Cancer
Center in Houston, is the author of the book, An Illustrated
Guide to Understanding Dental Implants. He is on faculty at NJDS
and maintains a private practice in Fort Lee, N.J.
Mark H. Goldenberg, '81 was appointed to the State of
California Board of Dental Examiners.
Diane Mihalow, '81 and her husband, Dr. John Arcoleo,
welcomed a daughter, Christine Georgeann Arcoleo, in May 1998.
"She is keeping us both young." The family resides
in Bridgewater, N.J. Dr. Mihalow has practiced geriatric dentistry
at the V.A. Medical Center in Lyons, N.J., since 1989. She also
teaches the general practice dental residents there.

Arthur S. Benson, '82 was promoted to the rank of captain
in the U.S. Naval Reserve Dental Corps.
Blanche D. Grube, '82 reports, "My husband, Dr. John
H. Grube, and I recently graduated from Capital University in
Washington, D.C. It is the only university of its kind granting
the degree, Doctor of Integrative Medicine. We graduated in June
1999. We now incorporate alternative health care into our daily
practice."
George Papasikos, '83 has opened an office in Bedminster,
N.J. He has a practice in periodonticsdental implants in
Upper Montclair, N.J.
Christopher Shyne, '83 reports that he is "diligently
working toward my Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry
via the 'Accelerate to Mastership' program." His celebration
of the Millennium included travel to Hawaii and Arizona.
Cliff Rigby, '85 completed the Ironman USA Triathlon in
Lake Placid, N.Y., which included a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile
bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run.
Yasmi Crystal, '86 is president of the New Jersey Association
of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dora Vilk-Shapito, '86 opened a new office in Coral Springs,
Fla.
Josh H. Brickman, '87 and his wife, Sharon, welcomed their
third daughter recently, Adi Jenna. The baby's sisters are Nicole
and Talia. Dr. Brickman has an endodontic practice in New York
City.
Glen Goldstein, '87 announces the arrival of his daughter,
Rachel, born in October 1999. The baby has two brothers, Zachary,
5, and Gregory, 3.
Jonathan Mangot, '87 serves on the board of directors
for both JCC on the Palisades and Congregation B'nai Israel.
He has offices in Waldwick and Paterson.
John Frattellone, '88 writes that his practice is growing
and that Alexander, 4, and Alanna, 3, "keep us very busy!"
Valerie C. Rico, '88 just moved to a new home in Manalapan,
N.J., with her husband, John, and sons Christopher, 8, and Nicholas,

Mamdouh S. Soliman, '88 writes, "Been out of school
12 years and it seems like yesterday! Hope all are doing well!"
Michael Donato, Jr., '89 has three children: Nicolle,
6; Michael III, 3; and Matthew, born in March 1999.
Nancy Jo Soporowski, '89
is president of the Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
and serves on the board of directors for Project StretchDentistry
reaching out to children. She lives in Needham, Mass., with her
husband, Vito; daughter, Emily (4 1/2); and son, Vito (9 months).
Geri Kohn-Hunter, '90 is in private practice as an
orthodontist in Portsmouth, N.H. She is married and has two sons,
Mark (2 1/2) and Scott (6 months).
Bruce W. Levin, '91 and his wife, Karen, welcomed a son,
Bradley Phillip, in February 1999. He has a practice in Rockefeller
Center and resides in Warren, N.J.
Thomas M. Scorziello, '91 was awarded Diplomate status
by the American Board of Periodontology in May 1999. Dr. Scorziello
received his certificate in periodontics from NJDS in 1997 and
also holds a master of science degree from Rutgers University.
He is a clinical assistant professor of periodontics at NJDS
and has a private practice in Clifton, N.J.
Fred R. Curcio, '92 bought a new home in Montclair,
N.J.
Mario Ramos, '92 has a new office with classmate Dr. Carmine
Russo (an orthodontist), Pediatric Dentistry of Midland Park.
A son was born in October 1999, John Henry Ramos. The baby joins
two brothers, Adam and Kevin, who are four-year-old twins.
Robert Sampier, '92 purchased a practice in Succasunna,
N.J., and at press time of the Beacon was looking for a part-time
associate.
Diane Jonas Feit, '93 and her husband, Daniel Feit ('94)
are parents of a son, Jacob Joseph, who was born in October 1999.
In addition to new motherhood, she is in private practice in
Tenafly, N.J., and on faculty at the New York University College
of Dentistry.
Usha Rana, '93 welcomed a daughter, Kajal H. Rana, in
October 1999.
Paul Albicocco, '94 has a baby daughter, Skylar Alexandra.
Jennifer Bushman, '94 opened a new office in Wyckoff,
N.J., in 1997. She married Dr. James Curreri ('95) in August
1998.
Daniel B. Feit, '94 and his wife, Diane Jonas ('93) are
parents of a son, Jacob Joseph, who was born in October 1999.

Technique," was published in the October 1999 issue of The
Journal of the American Dental
Association.
Karen Fenichel, '94 writes, "Eli graduated from the
University of Mainemagna cum laudewith a B.S. in wildlife
ecology. He will be going to Slovakia with the Peace Corps."
Shari Kent, '94 reports that she is currently not practicing
dentistry. She is a full-time mom to Alexander, 4, and Alanna,

Paul J. Lawyer, '94 became a partner at ATCO Family Dentistry
in January. A daughter, Abrielle Marie, was born in October 1998.
Erika Schweighardt, '94 and her husband, Robert Schmitz
('94), welcomed a daughter last June. "Gabriella Nikol is
a happy and healthy dentist-to-be."
Narpat Jain, '95 is enjoying private practice and being
on faculty at UMDNJ. His children are Sidharth, 5, and Rishab,

Carolyn DeForte Wasserfall, '96 is in private practice
in Holmdel, N.J., and bought a house in Little Silver, N.J.,
last December. She maintained an attending position at the Staten
Island University Hospital residency program. Her husband, Eric,
opened his own private law practice in Parlin, N.J. A son, Max
Andrew, born in March 1999, and she "loves being a Mom."
Paul Ferguson, '96 purchased a dental practice and home
in Fair Haven, N.J., in April 1999.
Kathleen Meehan, '96 is an assistant professor in the
Department of Periodontics at the School of Dentistry-Medical
College of Georgia.
Nils R. Bryant, '97 writes that his son, Sean Roger, was
born in September 1999.
Melanie DeMaria, '97 is a captain in the Air Force serving
in Aviano Air Force Base, Italy. She recently became engaged
to Captain Aaron Allgeyer. A September wedding in Italy is planned.

TX., in August 99.
