Welcome to the Department of Periodontics web site. The mission of our Department is to train predoctoral and postdoctoral students at UMDNJ, to carry out research and other scholarly activities to enhance knowledge and understanding of the sciences related to periodontology and to provide excellent periodontal care to the people of the State of New Jersey. The Department has a nationally recognized periodontal residency program with a world renowned and highly skilled faculty. Members of the Faculty are widely recognized clinicians and researchers who have received prestigious grants from the National Institute of Health and from corporate sponsors. Periodontics is that
branch of dentistry which deals with the study and treatment of diseases
of the gingivae and supporting structures of the teeth.
Basic Periodontics. This course deals in depth with the
pathologic conditions of the periodontium. Diagnosis, prognosis and early
treatment are stressed.
Periodontal Therapy. This didactic course deals with the
surgical treatment of periodontal disease and the relation of occlusion,
nutrition and other factors to the disease process.
Periodontics Clinic I & II. The clinical program is
based on a comprehensive care system. Each student performs periodontal
treatment on cases assigned during the junior and senior years.
