Dental Alumni Association Scholarships
- Applicants must rank in the upper fifty percent of their class
- Applicants must be in good academic standing with NJ Dental School

The Alan & Trudi Gardiner and Morton & Pearl Lowe Endowed Scholarship Fund
- Applicants must demonstrate excellence, commitment, compassion, a
serious commitment to their studies at NJDS, and financial need
- To determine financial need, levels of indebtedness will be requested from the Office of Financial Aid
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
William R. Cinotti Endowed Scholarship at NJDS
- Applicants must demonstrate leadership, outstanding character, and exemplary academic performance
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
Dr. Rita Virmani Mehra Endowed Scholarship at NJDS
- This scholarship will be awarded to a female student
- Applicants must have 3.5 GPA or greater, demonstrate financial need,
and have an interest in research and dental materials
- To determine financial need, levels of indebtedness will be requested from the Office of Financial Aid
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
Eastern Dentists Insurance Company Scholarship
- Applicants must demonstrate outstanding character, exemplary academic
performance, and financial need and / or a disadvantaged background
- To determine financial need, levels of indebtedness will be requested from the Office of Financial Aid
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
Carmine & Giuseppina Caruso Memorial Scholarship
- Preference to graduates of Rutgers University
- Applicants must be of Italian descent
- Above average academic performance in the previously completed academic year as evidenced by having passed all courses initially and having earned no clerkship grade of “I/S” due to shelf exam failure
- Preference to students with a desire to work in general family practice and in an inner city community in New Jersey
- Personal Statement: please attach a personal statement of 500 words or less including your professional goals, what receiving a scholarship would mean to you, any special circumstances that you would like considered, and your intent to ultimately practice in an inner city community
- Level of Indebtedness is based on all educational indebtedness. Please list total amount. This will be confirmed with the UMDNJ “ Office of Financial Aid
Please submit your application to the Office of Student Affair (B825). Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Please use the application form provided with this memorandum and attach your personal statement. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Submission of this application constitutes an understanding and agreement that your grade information and financial aid information will be released for verification. Also, in accepting the Carmine & Giuseppina Caruso Memorial Scholarship, you agree to be present at the Annual Dinner on November 14, 2012, to receive your scholarshipand agree to the use of your name, related information, and photographs in connection with this scholarship award and any associated publicity/publications.
Edward Wolfson Endowment Fund
- Applicants must demonstrate outstanding character, exemplary academic
performance, and financial need
- To determine financial need, levels of indebtedness will be requested from the Office of Financial Aid
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
L. Deckle McLean Scholarship Fund
- Applicants should be senior students who are considered
underrepresented in dentistry (e.g., African American, Hispanic, Native
American Indian) and who:
- Desire to further expand their dental educational experience outside the parameters of the NJDS curriculum. Examples include completing continuing education courses, attending externships, and shadowing in private dental offices
- Rank in the upper 50% of the class
- Demonstrate good academic standing
- Demonstrate great financial need
To determine financial need, levels of indebtedness will be requested from the Office of Financial Aid
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
- Please submit original letter(s) of confirmation for attendance / participation at continuing education courses, externships, shadowing, etc.
NJDS Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Applicants should be senior students who demonstrate good academic
standing and have completed more than the minimum junior year clinical
requirements in all clinical disciplines
- Candidates should not have exceeded the number of excused clinical sessions and should not have any missed closed rotations that require make up
- Candidates must demonstrate clinical excellence while rendering
patient care in all clinical disciplines
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a
faculty member
- Please submit an original letter from the Group Practice Administrator
asserting to overall clinical excellence and noting that the number of
excused clinical sessions have not been exceeded
- Please provide a breakdown of satisfied clinical requirements
Joseph Pollack Endowed Scholarship Fund
- Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of merit to dental students who reside in New Jersey upon admission
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
NJDS-Hispanic Dental Association Award
- Applicants should be junior and senior students who demonstrate the
following:
- Support and commitment to the NJDS Hispanic Dental Association chapter
- Participation in community outreach events through NJDS-HDA
- Participation in NJDS educational pipeline programs
- Good academic standing
- Please provide confirmation for attendance / participation / mentoring in the following:
- HDA
- Community outreach events
- NJDS pipeline programs (Dental Express, Dental Exploration, D/D, Gateway, SMDEP)
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from an
NJDS Hispanic Dental Association Faculty Advisor
- Faxed copies of letters of recommendation will also be accepted
Champions Endowed Scholarship
- Applicants must have 3.5 GPA or greater and demonstrate financial need
- To determine financial need, levels of indebtedness will be requested from the Office of Financial Aid
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member
AT&T Minority Students Endowed Scholarship
- Applicants should be considered underrepresented in dentistry (e.g.,
African American, Hispanic, Native American Indian) and demonstrate
consistent academic excellence and financial need
- To determine financial need, levels of indebtedness will be requested from the Office of Financial Aid
- Please submit a signed letter of recommendation, on letterhead, from a faculty member

- If criteria is not listed for a particular scholarship, there is no specific criteria
- Please check off which scholarship(s) you are applying for on the scholarship application
- Please note that you can apply for more than one scholarship
- All documents submitted will be retained permanently by the Office of Student Affairs and will be kept confidential
Application instructions:
- Applicants must submit completed applications to the Office of Student Affairs by 5:00 p.m. on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2012
- All applications must be typed
- Please submit 1 original and 2 copies of the entire application (3 TOTAL)
- If there are extenuating circumstances that you feel the scholarship
committee should be made aware of, please provide a brief summary
Please do not exceed one additional page
- Class standing and GPA will be confirmed with the Registrar’s Office
- Indebtedness will be confirmed with the Office of Financial Aid
