BUDGET INFORMATION

Salaries:
Please use this link to obtain the most recent National Research Service Award guidelines for postdoctoral salaries: http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-02-028.html

Salaries should be increased by 4% in each successive grant year.

Fringe benefits:
Fringe benefits for all full time employees or more than half-time employees should be calculated as 29.15% of the requested salary.

Fringe benefits for post-doctoral fellows should be calculated as $1900 (for insurance) plus 8% of the requested salary.

Annual increases on non-salary items:
All non-salary recurring budget expenses (e.g., supplies) should be increased by 5% annually. Indirect (Facilities and Administrative) Costs: The following federally negotiated facilities and administration costs are applicable to all federally sponsored research grants as well as to non-competing renewals associated with the original award:

Rate Description Rate Effective Period

On-site research 55.5% 07/01/02-06/30/04
Off-site research 26.0% 07/01/02-06/30/04
Training grants 8.0%

Overhead costs on industry grants are negotiated individually, but should not be less than 25%.

Overhead costs are calculated on the basis of total direct costs excluding equipment.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Fees:
For industry-sponsored studies only, the IRB charges $1,500 for initial review and $900 for continuing reviews. No fees are imposed on government-funded studies.
