FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What are the average grade point and DAT scores for the class entering in 2007?
A. The 2007 entering class had an average GPA of 3.53 and average DAT scores of 19.43. However, this is a class average and applicants with lower GPA and DAT averages are encouraged to apply.

Q. Do you require a minimum GPA?
A.
Although NJDS does not have a minimum GPA or minimum DAT scores we receive over 1,900 applications for approximately 90 seats. Competition is therefore intense and applicants with stronger credentials tend to be considered for our first round of acceptances.

Q. Is citizenship required?
A.
NJDS will only consider applications from students who are either permanent residents or citizens of the United States.

Q. I am an international dentist and want to be licensed to practice in the United States?
A.
UMDNJ-NJDS has established an advanced standing program for internationally trained dentists to earn Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree.

Q. How do I obtain an application?
A.
NJDS participates in a Central Application service American Association of Dental Application Service (AADSAS). You must complete this application on line www.adea.org

Q. How do I receive information and an application for the Dental Admission Test?
A.
Applications and information can be obtained from the American Dental Associations website www.ada.org

Q. When should I take the DAT?
A.
You are encouraged to take the exam no later then August of the year prior to the year you intend to matriculate. Interviews cannot be granted until your DAT scores are received.

Q. Is there a supplemental application?
A.
The New Jersey Dental School does not use a supplemental application, however there is a $75.00 application fee made payable to UMDNJ for the processing of your application. The $75.00 application fee should be sent directly to the school. New Jersey Dental School Office of Admissions, Room B830 110 Bergen Street Newark, NJ 07101

Q. Where do I send my transcripts and letters of recommendation?
A.
Your credentials (transcripts and letters of recommendation) must be sent to AADSAS. They are not to be sent to NJDS.

Q. What is the status of my application? Is my file complete?
A.
Due to the large volume of applications, we cannot answer telephone calls or email questions regarding the status of complete or incomplete applications. You will only be notified regarding your status if you are selected for an interview.

Q. Am I eligible for financial aid?
A.
Financial assistance is awarded on the basis of "need", for detailed information please visit the Student Financial Aid website.

Q. Do you accept transfer students from other dental schools?
A.
We do not accept transfer students.
