Postgraduate Orthodontics

Background: The three-year NJDS Postgraduate program is built around completion of the requirements for a Certificate in Orthodontics and the ability to fulfill the degree requirements for a Master of Science in Oral Biology, a Master of Science in Dentistry or a Master of Dental Medicine. Taught by a diverse and energetic faculty, the program strives to provide quality in education, research, health care delivery, and service. Postgraduate students leave the program as competent clinicians, capable of dealing with the range of patient needs in a typical orthodontic practice. This includes learning skills in clinical techniques as well as in critical thinking and research methodology. Graduates will be able to fulfill all of the requirements for becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Number of Students: Each year five students are accepted into the program.

Program Timing and Duration: The program begins in July and is completed in late May of the third year of study.

Typical Day: The daily schedule includes classes from 8-10 AM, a morning clinic session, lunch (1-2 PM), and an afternoon clinic session until 5 PM. Monday morning or Tuesday afternoon clinic times are reserved for research and limited predoctoral teaching.

Apply to PASS - Click here to go directly to the PASS website. The UMDNJ postgraduate Orthodontic Program now participates in the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS). PASS is a centralized application service, which has been designed by the American Dental Education Association for individuals applying to postdoctoral dental education programs.  PASS provides participating postdoctoral programs uniform standardized information, eliminating the need for multiple applications. You only submit one application to PASS.  Postdoctoral dental programs benefit by receiving uniform information on all candidates. PASS charges a separate application fee in addition to the $50.00 application fee charged by the New Jersey Dental School. The PASS deadline for all material is September 2, 2013.

  2. Register with the Postgraduate Dental Matching Program at http://www.natmatch.com/dentres

  3. Foreign trained dental students or dentists are invited to apply.  For consideration, GRE scores are required. National Board Dental Exams (NBDE) is not required. All transcripts should be translated completely. Official undergraduate transcripts and evaluation report (ECE) are to be sent directly to the program.  Any information concerning class rank should be included.

Any questions regarding the application process or requirements can be directed to Christian Cardenas, email cardenca@umdnj.edu
